George Perles

This is the story of an incredible man who has given his life to his alma mater. Perles entered Michigan State in 1957 and as a sophomore in 1958, sustained a serious knee injury that ended his playing career. George Perles became Coach Perles and continued on as the student coach for the Green and White. Coach Perles` career began its meteoric rise when in 1972 he was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers and became Chuck Noll`s defensive line coach.Throughout the `70s, the Steelers` defense dominated under Perles and in 1979, he was promoted to assistant head coach. In 1983, George Perles took over the reins at Michigan State and after just one rebuilding year led the Spartans to their first Bowl game in decades.
